Retrax PowerTraxPro XR | Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

The PowerTraxPro XR delivers motorized tonneau control without sacrificing the low-profile design our manual covers are known for. A single button retracts the matte black aluminum slats into the canister mounted at the front of your bed, giving you instant full-bed access or partial coverage as needed. We engineered the XR with sealed ball bearings in every rail junction and a reinforced motor housing to handle daily use in rain, snow, and desert dust.

This cover sits flush with or slightly below the bed rails depending on truck model, preserving your sight lines and fuel economy. The slats lock automatically in the closed position, and you can stop retraction at any point to secure cargo of varying lengths. Our PowerTraxPro XR works with most spray-in bedliners and stake pocket systems, and installation requires no drilling on most full-size trucks.

Electric retraction system and motor housing

The PowerTraxPro XR runs on a 12-volt DC motor mounted inside the front canister, drawing power directly from your truck’s battery through a plug-and-play harness. We designed the motor housing with an IP67 dust and water seal so the internal gears stay protected even when you’re driving through heavy rain or washing the truck bed. The wireless key fob has a range of approximately 30 feet, and the in-cab rocker switch gives you control without leaving the driver’s seat.

Retraction takes roughly 20 seconds from fully closed to fully open, and you can pause at any point by releasing the button. If the cover encounters an obstruction during retraction, the motor stops automatically to prevent damage to the slats or rails. A manual pull-cord inside the canister lets you open or close the cover if the battery dies or the motor fails, so you’ll never be locked out of your bed.

Slat construction and load rating
Sizing & fit

Slat construction and load rating

Each slat measures 1.25 inches tall and spans the full width of your bed, interlocking with the next slat via a hinge pin captured in the sealed ball-bearing rail. We use 0.040-inch aluminum extrusions with internal reinforcement ribs every six inches to resist flex under snow or cargo weight. The matte black powder coat is baked at 400°F and passes a 1,000-hour salt-spray test, so the finish holds up in coastal climates and road-salt states.

The 500-pound rating applies when weight is distributed evenly across the closed cover — never concentrate a load on a single slat. For heavier or uneven cargo, open the cover fully and use the bed floor. The slat ends ride in a proprietary T-slot rail that we mount to the inside of the bed rail, keeping the profile low and the operation smooth even after tens of thousands of open-close cycles.

Styling

Installation requirements and bed compatibility

No-drill installation on most models

We include vehicle-specific clamps that grip the inside and outside of your bed rail, eliminating the need to drill holes in most full-size truck applications. The only tools you’ll need are a socket set, a tape measure, and about 90 minutes. Our kit includes a wiring harness with color-coded connectors, a detailed instruction manual with photos for your truck model, and all the hardware pre-bagged by step.

Bedliner and accessory compatibility

The PowerTraxPro XR works with factory plastic drop-in liners, spray-in liners, and bare metal beds. If you have a spray-in liner, we include slightly longer clamp bolts to account for the added thickness. The cover rail sits just inside the bed rail, leaving your stake pockets open for tie-downs, bike racks, or ladder racks. You can run most over-the-rail accessories — like Yakima or Thule crossbars — without removing the cover, though the slats must be fully retracted if the accessory extends below the rail top.

Retraction is smooth and fast
I've had the PowerTraxPro XR on my F-250 for eight months now and it still operates as smoothly as day one. The key fob works from inside my garage, so I can open the cover before I even walk outside. Installation took me two hours working alone, and I didn't have to drill a single hole.

Perfect for daily hauling
We use our Silverado for landscaping work, so the bed gets opened and closed a dozen times a day. The electric retraction saves a ton of time compared to our old roll-up cover. The slats have held up to shovels, rock, and mulch bags without any dents.

Great cover, plan for winter ice
I live in Minnesota and learned the hard way that ice can freeze the slats together if I don't leave the cover slightly open overnight. Once I started doing that, no more issues. The motor has plenty of power and the matte finish still looks new after a year of snow and salt.

Low profile and secure
You can barely tell the cover is there when it's closed — it sits almost flush with my bed rails. The automatic lock gives me peace of mind when I'm parked downtown, and the in-cab switch means I never have to get out of the truck to access the bed.

Held up on a cross-country move
We drove from Arizona to North Carolina with the cover closed the entire trip, and it kept everything bone-dry through two rainstorms. The slats didn't rattle or flex at highway speeds, and the motor worked perfectly even after three weeks of sitting unused.

Works great with my spray-in liner
I was worried the clamps wouldn't fit over my Line-X bedliner, but Retrax included longer bolts in the kit and everything lined up perfectly. The cover doesn't interfere with my stake pocket tie-downs, and I can still use my bed extender when the slats are retracted.

Good to know

Common questions about the PowerTraxPro XR

Yes. A manual pull-cord is located inside the front canister, accessible by lifting the canister lid. Pull the cord to disengage the motor clutch, then slide the cover open or closed by hand. Once your battery is recharged or replaced, the motor resumes normal operation without any reset procedure.

No. Most truck owners complete installation in 60 to 90 minutes using basic hand tools. The kit includes vehicle-specific clamps that attach to the bed rail without drilling on most models. Our instruction manual has step-by-step photos for your truck, and we offer installation videos on our support site if you prefer a visual guide.

The motor, wiring harness, key fob, and in-cab switch carry a three-year warranty from the date of purchase. The aluminum slats, rails, and canister are covered by our limited lifetime warranty. If a motor failure occurs within the warranty period, we'll ship a replacement motor and provide troubleshooting support to help you swap it in.

The PowerTraxPro XR is compatible with most low-profile crossover toolboxes that mount behind the cab. Measure from the back of your toolbox to the front of the bed — you'll need at least 14 inches of clearance for the canister. Bed extenders and tailgate extenders work fine as long as you fully retract the cover before deploying them.

The slats are rated for 500 pounds of evenly distributed weight when the cover is fully closed and locked. This rating assumes the load spreads across multiple slats — do not place a concentrated load on a single slat. For cargo heavier than 500 pounds or unevenly shaped items, retract the cover fully and use the bed floor.

Yes. The sealed ball bearings and IP67-rated motor housing are designed to handle car wash water pressure and spray. We recommend brushless or touchless car washes to avoid potential scratches from rotating brushes. After washing, wipe any standing water from the top of the canister to prevent water spots on the matte finish.

The motor includes an automatic stop feature that cuts power if it detects resistance beyond normal operating load. Release the button, clear the obstruction, then press the button again to continue retraction. This safety feature prevents damage to the slats, rails, or motor if a cargo strap or tool gets caught during operation.
